The Conductor

a leader, a coordinator, a translator
In music, a Conductor is primarily a leader. While each individual in an orchestra is responsible for playing his or her instrument well, it is the Conductors job to get the individuals to play together; it is she or he who transforms the orchestra into a single instrument. Conductors are also conduits: they are the communication link between the composer and the band. There is a definite body/mind/feeling coordination required in conducting -- it is the dance of leadership.
When we become Conductors, we take the helm. All eyes are upon us. We have power over others -- it is our job to use it responsibly. It is a time for us to shine -- and to keep our intent foremost in mind.
