Chops
Chops refer to a musicians technical skills. An accomplished player is said to have great chops; if we need to hone our skills, we say we need to get our chops up. The Chops card refers to facility, to dexterity and adeptness; it implies discipline and perseverance. The Chops card can indicate an obsession with work or discipline, however, if our need for better-stronger-faster is operating unconsciously: we may have our self-worth tied up with our notions of success, for example, or perhaps be immersing ourselves in work to hide from something else.
