Sforzando
shock, the unexpected
In music, a sforzando (sfort-SAHN-doh) indicates an abrupt increase in volume. The performance mark -- shown on the center of the card -- is usually placed over a single pitch or chord, which is played at a sharp increase in volume; the effect is startling. In a casting, the Sforzando Card indicates a shock, a sudden arrival of the unexpected, or a surprise increase in force.
